True Story
About a year ago, I was at the Delta Crown Room in Chicago O'Hare waiting to meet with an important client - she texted me when she landed and let me know she was running about 20 minutes late.
While I was sitting at the bar, I noticed a man that looked a lot like Bill Gates keeping to himself at one of the tables. Being a pretty forward person, I approached him.
Me: "Excuse me, Mr. Gates?"
Bill Gates: "Uh, Yes?"
Me: "Hi, my name's Eric. Don't mean to bother you, just wanted to let you know that I have the highest respect for all of your positive contributions to the world"
Bill Gates (smiling): "Well, thank you, Eric"
Me: "I know this is a little unorthodox, but I was wondering if you would consider you doing me a favor?"
Bill Gates (a little restrained - smile gone): "What did you have in mind?"
Me: "I am meeting with a very important client over there by the bar area - she should be here in about 10 minutes. If you are still in the Crown Room and see me talking to her, it would mean a lot to me if you just walked by and said "Hi" to me."
Bill Gates (now chuckling): "Sure - if I'm still here, I would be happy to"
Me: "Thanks so much!"
So about 15 minutes later, while I was engaged in discussion with my important client, I felt a tap on my shoulder - my client's eyes suddenly got wider. I turned around slowly, and there was Bill Gates!
Bill Gates: "Saw you sitting there Eric and thought I would stop by to say 'Hi' "
Me: "F$@# off, Gates, can't you see I'm in a meeting?"
:-) (OK, maybe not a true story)
